Responsible Recruitment

Get in Touch

The Impactt team are at the cutting edge of work on responsible recruitment across the globe. We have more than 20 years of expertise in identifying and tackling modern slavery and forced labour, as well as developing responsible recruitment solutions and approaches to remediation.

Our expertise is built on tens of thousands of story-based interviews conducted by our specially trained worker interviewers: spanning hundreds of labour migration corridors as well as locally recruited employees. Our insights are strengthened through close collaboration with business to develop a pragmatic roadmap to remediation, which works for management and workers.

What We Do

Our Responsible Recruitment services include:

The 3 Stages of Responsible Recruitment

Stage 1

Diagnosis

Our expert lead assessors and dedicated worker interviewers are highly trained to accurately assess the issues faced by workers and companies related to recruitment journeys. This detailed diagnosis, either across the 11 ILO Forced Labour Indicators or focussed solely on recruitment related indicators, leads to bespoke recommendations for remediation and prevention of issue reoccurrence.

Stage 2

Remediation

We are thought leaders in the remediation of responsible recruitment issues.  This includes providing expert consulting support towards:

Stage 3

Prevention

We work with stakeholders to limit the possibility that they will need to remediate again in future. We provide expert strategic support on management systems changes to prevent reoccurrence of issues, which will be based on closure of issues identified during the ‘diagnosis’ stage. Commonly, this can include:

  • Meaningful policy and procedural commitments to an effective ‘Employer Pays Principle’ and to deeper engagement in labour source countries.
  • Ensuring an open tender invitation accessible to all legitimate recruitment agencies, including re-application for any existing contracts.
  • Supporting information sharing events on the tender process, and expectations of recruitment agencies in advance of the tender.
  • Detailing requirements for ethical tender applications.
  • Shortlisting of recruitment agencies, and practical use of OECD Due Diligence guidance to identify, mitigate and remedy human rights impacts related to ethical recruitment.
  • Developing Service Level Agreements (SLAs) between employers and selected agencies.
  • Process for continuous improvement: facilitation of regular lessons learned sessions between employer and agency to build knowledge of problems and challenges, and collaborate on solutions.
