Impactt conducted a deep dive Gender-Based Violence and Harassment (GBVH) investigation at an agriculture business in East Africa. Out of the three sites assessed, on average, over 70% of workers reported experiencing, witnessing, or hearing about GBVH in the workplace.
The investigation led to:
- An understanding of the various factors contributing to gender inequality and GBVH in the workplace.
- Co-developing an approach to identify the need for implementing specific interventions in the business to address the root causes and enabling factors.
- Following up to resolve and remediate critical complex cases discovered during the investigation.
- Impactt provided support to build effective grievance mechanisms to enable workers to report issues freely.
- Training of the client’s senior management team to be able to investigate, follow up and resolve complex cases.
During a follow-up visit, the client demonstrated significant improvements where serious GBHV cases have been resolved to workers’ satisfaction whilst protecting their identity. Cases where the allegations were confirmed have led to the dismissal of perpetrators. All cases are managed through an internal investigation, and the inquisition system is supported and endorsed by senior management.
