The Senior Consultant role in India is a critical role in delivering positive change for our clients and for workers. Senior Consultants’ main purpose is to deliver impactful consulting projects for clients across numerous sectors and countries and addressing a range of human rights issues. In addition to advising clients, Senior Consultants manage multiple projects and meet internal operational requirements. They support the business development efforts by representing Impactt externally and identifying opportunities for further projects. They also have responsibility to developing others and fostering a professional working environment.
- Service delivery: Deliver Impactt’s work in the areas of assessments and investigations, remediation and/or training with a variety of clients, sectors and geographies.
- Project management: Drive, manage and ensure that essential support to projects is provided, working with team members to achieve success.
- Account management: Proactively leading, managing and growing a number of medium to large clients/accounts and support growth of larger ones.
Key responsibilities
Project delivery
- Work closely with local clients and their partners to ‘diagnose’ human rights risks in their operations and value chains and, with limited oversight of colleagues, advise on solutions to address these.
- Deliver human rights assessments, investigations and similar work at the sites of clients / their partners (following comprehensive internal training and support). This work will include working with colleagues to interview management and workers and assess relevant documents. It will require domestic and international travel.
- Conduct desk-top research and analyse.
- Draft high-quality, insightful and clear reports on project findings.
- Championing at least one key product area
Project management
- Working closely with Project Leads, manage numerous small and medium-sized, projects simultaneously, juggling priorities to ensure that they are delivered on time and budget and to a high standard.
- Draft project budgets and resourcing plans in line with the projects’ methodology.
- Brief project delivery teams.
- To plan and organise individual and/or delivery team activity based on skills and competencies.
- Throughout the delivery on the project, monitor progress (of colleagues and associates) and financial performance, identify and manage risks, and escalate any concerns to the Project Lead / Principal Consultant/HOCS in a timely manner.
- Take responsibility for project administration, including updating internal management information, issuing of invoices etc.
- Follow internal processes and support others to do the same.
Business development and client management
- Understand Impactt’s clients’ programmes and identify where Impactt’s services add value.
- Independently write clear, concise,proposals which clearly explain the project approach.
- Act as a trusted advisor for clients and build partnerships between different stakeholders.
- Communicate to clients and stakeholders in a professional, objective, and clear manner.
- Facilitate and lead client meetings independently and proactively develop or contribute to the development of methodology to address client needs
- Identify opportunities to grow Impactt’s relationship with existing clients and convert these into further projects.
- Manage several small- and medium-sized client accounts, including being the Relationship Lead, to provide excellent and tailored client service across a range of projects.

- Undertake any other duties reasonably required that are consistent with the grade and purpose of the post.
Knowledge, skills and experience
- Committed to the values and objectives of Impactt Limited
- Degree or equivalent academic qualification in a related field such as management, international development, business studies, human rights, or successful proven track record in Sustainability / Social / Ethical Trade
- Evidence of continually developing professional knowledge.
- Minimum 4 years working experience with evidence of 2+ years of experience in a similar role in, and passion for, human rights, sustainability, ethical trade/sustainable sourcing, social compliance, investigations or similar.
- Experience in or exposure to social compliance auditing and/or beyond compliance activities
- Experience of working with clients in a professional setting, ideally in consulting or similar.
- International and cross-cultural work experience with a sensitivity to a multi-cultural global environment / working in developing countries
- A good understanding of business and commercial perspectives.
- Excellent project management skills including managing a project team and project budget (project management qualifications are not required).
- Experience of analysing situations, developing solutions and implementing changes as part of a team.
- Experience in business development including replying to RFPs and proposal writing
- Attention to detail.
- A good written communication skills and report writing experience.
- Strong verbal and interpersonal skills – and the ability to empathise and quickly build trusting relationships.
- Strong presentation, training or facilitation skills.
- Proactivity and initiative, and the ability to work autonomously and escalate where needed.
- Experience of working/responding independently and dealing with unforeseen problems and circumstances
- A curious and determined mindset to really understand and solve problems.
- Substantial experience delivering fieldwork independently
- Ability to work outside normal hours including attendance at evening, and occasional weekend, meetings.
- Ability to travel periodically nationally and internationally to the locations that Impactt conducts its business
