Human Rights – Worker Interviewer South Africa

Project background

Impactt has been commissioned by a global beverages company to undertake an assessment of the workforce engaged at its site in Isipingo, South Africa. The purpose of the assessment is to help the company gain an understanding of the labour rights risks experienced by its workforce.

Impactt is looking for a local worker interviewer to support this assessment. The selected Worker Interviewer will be expected to:

  • Attend briefing calls with the Impactt team.
  • Conduct worker interviews of workers in Nguni languages and English.
  • Attend debrief sessions with the Lead Assessor throughout the assessment.
  • Support with logistical arrangements for the interviews, where required.
  • Reporting findings from interviews in a pre-designed template.

Timeline

The assessment will take place in Isipingo during 12th – 14th February 2025. We expect that worker interviews will take place over the course of three (3) days.

Level of Effort (LoE)

Preparation – 4 hours

Worker Interviews – 24 hours (over 3 days)

Reporting – Up to 4 hours

Essential skills

  • Passionate about Impactt and the work we do.
  • Strong self-management and good team player.
  • Strong sense of initiative and great capacity at working on their own.

  • Reliable, strong integrity and ethical behaviour.
  • Excellent listening and interpersonal skills.
  • Empathy with others and ability to respond accordingly.

General Experience

  • Minimum of 2-4 years’ experience delivering. individual or group interviews (preferably working with vulnerable groups of people).
  • Good understanding of national labour law.
  • Exposure to international labour law.
  • Experience in social compliance auditing or labour rights assessments/investigations.

Specific Experience

  • A good understanding of labour rights risks faced by workers in international supply chains.

Language

  • Good written and spoken English.
  • Fluency in Nguni languages, knowledge of other local languages is desirable.

Right to work

  • Must have a legal right to work in South Africa.

Please note: This is not a full-time role. Once you have successfully applied, you will join our pool of associate consultants and will also be considered for additional short-term and long-term assignments in the region as and when they come up. You will have the freedom to work on projects that interest you and receive a contract form for each project you support on.
