Head of UK Consulting

​The purpose of the role is to lead the UK Consulting practice, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, impactful, and profitable consulting advice to clients. The individual will manage strategic client accounts, building strong relationships and becoming a trusted advisor. Additionally, the role involves taking on leadership responsibilities within the organization, supporting the Senior Leadership Team in making key strategic decisions.

What you will do:

Oversee the portfolio of UK projects:

  • Design and shape project approaches / methodologies using consulting and human rights skills.
  • Be the point of escalation for queries related to projects from the UK team, supporting Project Leads and Project Managers to troubleshoot issues on content, client management and project management.
  • Monitor the progress of all UK projects, identifying and addressing any areas of concern.
  • Ensure all projects follow company procedures from inception to closure, and that lessons learnt lead to wider improvements.

Deliver services:

  • Be the Project Lead accountable for a host of strategic and complex projects working closely with the Project Manager to ensure high-quality delivery on time and on budget.
  • Spend considerable time (approximately half of total working hours) on delivering / overseeing client chargeable projects.

Develop business:

  • Manage and grow a number of client accounts, in particular the most strategic clients.
  • Support wider business development efforts of the UK team, including the drafting and review of proposals.
  • Represent the company at external events.

Lead the UK Consulting practice:

  • Ensure that the team meeting project-related targets on quality, utilisation, processes and other internal areas.
  • Work closely with the Human Resources team to manage HR matters within the team including recruitment, learning & development, and staff engagement.
  • Work with the Quality & Technical team to build the human rights, consulting (including project management) and commercial skills of the team.
  • Implement company-wide processes and, where enhancements are needed to global processes, work with Operational colleagues and others to design and embed improvements that optimise efficiency, quality and staff engagement.
  • Build a strong, positive and supportive culture within the team.
  • Work closely with other teams, including international colleagues and those in the Commercial team, for the achievement of common goals.

Line manage:

  • Be the line manager for the Principal Consultants.
  • Provide coaching and operational support to ensure their strong engagement and professional development.
  • Deliver standard HR approaches around appraisals, leave and other areas.

Support business leadership:

  • Work closely with the Director of Consulting, CEO and others company leaders to advise on both consulting matters (particularly those related to the UK) and wider strategic topics, as requested.
  • Work closely with the Quality & Technical and Commercial teams to continually review and improve the suite of products / services, and support the integration of data into the company’s activities.

We would love to hear from you if you have:

  • Significant technical skills and professional experience within human rights or wider sustainability topics
  • Significant line management experience (essential) and wide team leadership experience (desirable)
  • Strong relationship building skills and an ability to quickly build trust internally and with clients
  • A good track record of problem solving, especially with fast-moving and changing requirements
  • A positive and proactive ‘can-do’ attitude
  • Comfort in juggling multiple tasks at one time within a high pressured environment
  • Confidence to make a decision and justify it within a context of competing demands
