Impactt’s award-winning Benefits for Business and Workers (BBW) programme now reaches some 280,000 garment workers in 188 factories across Bangladesh, India and Myanmar. It is supported by 17 major fashion brands and retailers, including Debenhams, Marks & Spencer, Ralph Lauren and Sainsbury’s. Focusing on HR and productivity training, the programme aims to prove that better pay and working conditions for workers leads directly to improved productivity and profit.
In July 2016, Impactt completed the second phase of BBW in Bangladesh, supported by funding from the UK’s Department for International Development (DfID). Some 88 factories graduated successfully, with factories collectively gaining £6.9m in profit and 243,134 workers receiving an additional £6.2m in pay. This builds on the programme’s initial results (2011-13), when 63 factories in Bangladesh and India generated some £4.5 in extra profit and workers benefitted from an additional £4m in wages.
